Maine's North Woods
The mission: To snowshoe and ski our way along the Appalachian Trail through Maine's 100-Mile Wilderness, in February 2018.
We live in and love Maine. Winters are harsh and the perfect time to explore. We're upping the ante this year after our successful circumnavigation of Baxter State Park and taking what we learned and applying it to the most rugged and remote section of the Appalachian Trail: through the 100-Mile Wilderness
Starting near Monson, ME, our team of 4 will head north on the Appalachian Trail through the 100-Mile Wilderness to Abol Bridge and then attempt to hike and ski Mount Katahdin from the summit. We're planning on taking 10-12 days to complete the trip, but conditions will dictate that. The biggest foreseeable obstacles include potentially unfrozen river crossings and a hundred miles of unbroken trail. Should be exciting!
While we all love to adventure for adventure sake, we also hope to raise awareness of and money for a local nonprofit that works with cool folks to get them outdoors. We feel that access to the outdoors is important to everyone. Unfortunately our natural recreation resources are shrinking in the current political climate, so we're also partnering with a few great conservation organizations, too! More to come as things unfold...
